Digital-Campus

A forward-looking place

For the new location of Europe's largest software company, SCOPE Architekten focussed on the campus culture when designing the interior. The aim is to create an inspiring, networked, and open working environment that promotes communication, collaboration, and creativity. The seamless connection of digital and physical space is at the centre of the design. The location in the Heidestrasse neighbourhood and its immediate surroundings become the leitmotif: Berlin's main railway station, the AEG turbine factory, and the western harbour represent the evolution of Industry 1.0 to 3.0. The new campus symbolises Industry 4.0. Industrial-looking elements, innovative layering of materials, open ceilings, and exposed concrete walls translate this concept into the interior.

Office SAP Berlin

A flexible work environment

The company is merging three existing locations in Berlin into a flexible and creative work environment to provide a shared platform for collaboration and innovation that will shape the software company’s future. A total of 1,300 workstations on 13 floors will be created for flexible collaboration. The spectrum ranges from closed cellular offices for two, four, or eight workstations to flexible open-space areas, think tanks, and various seating options for brainstorming and spontaneous dialogue. There are also six different types of meeting room. For the corridors, the PIVOT luminaire echoes the look of the railway tracks. The architects have thus created an appealing visual link to the nearby main railway station.

A tailored office luminaire

For the approximately 1,300 workstations, the architects wanted to use a circular luminaire to echo the aesthetic appearance of the PIVOT luminaires for the general lighting. Developed by XAL in creative collaboration with SCOPE architects, the efficient SETA office luminaire was created – tailored to the special requirements of computer workstations. With its round, elegant shape, it supports well-being at the workplace and provides perfect work light with a colour rendering value of up to CRI > 98.

A wide range of applications

Finding a product that fulfils the diverse requirements for meeting rooms, foyers, event areas, work cafés, and plant lighting is a challenge for lighting. The flexible MOVE IT track system facilitates the integration of various technical and decorative insets. Due to the variety of uses of the building, the system is ideal for use and offers the right inset for every area. This feature not only proved to be useful during the construction phase, but the tool-free and magnetic installation facilitates straightforward operation and expansion, especially during operation.

Office design focussing on sustainability

The interior concept focuses on sustainability and follows the principle of circularity: this gave us the opportunity to use new and particularly innovative solutions. Sustainable or reused materials such as wall coverings made from natural rubber, 100% recycled perspex, carpet tiles made from upcycled fishing nets and industrial yarns, and textile tabletops made from textile waste were used to minimise the building's environmental footprint. Energy-efficient solutions such as smart lighting, energy-saving air conditioning, and sustainable furniture help to reduce resource use.
