MHP Arena Stuttgart

Home game in a new light

The new VIP area of the MHP Arena, the home of VfB Stuttgart, represents a unique concept in German football. The Porsche Tunnel Club turns the infield zone into an atmospheric experience. Large viewing windows allow fans to watch the players as they enter the pitch directly from the club room. The high exclusivity of the Tunnel Club is also reflected in the quality of the lighting design. The lighting solution creates an impressive backdrop in which the fans and guests can directly experience the special atmosphere of a home match.

When design meets atmosphere

The Tunnel Club impresses not only with its exclusive location in the centre of the arena, but also with its unique architectural design. Raw materials like concrete and terrazzo, combined with a minimalist, high-quality aesthetic, give the space an authentic character. Large glass surfaces create transparency, while hand-crafted elements like the open, custom-built kitchen fill the club with life. The design is supported by a finely tuned lighting concept that harmoniously blends architecture and atmosphere: Indirect, space-defining light and targeted accents transform the Tunnel Club into a stage where sport and design merge into a harmonious total experience.

Light that activates

The lighting in the Tunnel Club is far more than just functional – it sets the scene, creates atmosphere and activates the space all at once. It draws the eye, sets specific accents and creates spaces that can be transformed to suit the occasion: restrained and intimate or vibrant and full of energy. With finely tuned brightness levels, the concept supports the 360° glazing, which offers players privacy while still providing guests with unforgettable views. The customised MINO Curve and JANE lighting fixtures are the characteristic design elements: They draw dynamic lines, subtly reminiscent of the movements of the players, and allow the Tunnel Club to shine in ever-changing facets. Subtle basic lighting was achieved using the SASSO 100.

In the leitmotif of lights

The JANE lighting fixture accompanies visitors to the stadium from the new entrance to central areas like the piano bar, the Tunnel Club, and the VIP box. As a consistent, guiding element, it creates a visual connection throughout the entire stadium. Thanks to its flexible design and dimmability, it enables atmospheric lighting scenarios and specifically highlights both the architecture and the emotion of the location.

"Atmosphere is created only through the interplay of space, material and light. Lighting makes all the difference, especially in the Tunnel Club: It provides orientation, creates atmosphere and, depending on the moment, transforms the space into a stage for emotions.”

Spotlight

We asked Janka Morela, managing partner at candela Lichtplanung, what inspires her in her work and where she finds inspiration:

I am fascinated by the combination of technical precision, atmosphere and space – every project brings its own challenges. The innovations in lighting technology challenge our creativity every day. At the same time, I am enthusiastic about motivating the team and working together to achieve results that everyone can be proud of. For me, inspiration arises where things become challenging – new topics and unfamiliar territory arouse my curiosity. Equally important is the exchange with specialist planners, our employees and people outside our professional field. These different perspectives help to develop the best possible solution.
