Goldsmith Studio Ertl

Vibrant craftsmanship through precise lighting

Roland Leimgruber’s interior design studio wanted to create a calm yet inspiring working atmosphere in which the craftsmanship and precision of jeweller Patrick Ertl at his atelier in Mattsee, Salzburg, would be evident. The lighting was not to be merely functional but also emphasise the sensuality of the materials and the delicate details of the jewellery pieces. The concept for the shop lighting was based on a clear, minimalist space that comes alive through targeted light accents – an interplay of focus and atmosphere.

Functionality and emotion in balance

The challenge was to harmoniously combine the small studio’s various lighting requirements – work lighting, display lighting and ambient lighting. Jewellery requires precise, colour-neutral light. At the same time, the space should not appear sterile or overly technical. Therefore, a balance had to be found between functionality and emotion.

Precise, flexible and premium quality

The challenge was to harmoniously combine the small studio’s various lighting requirements – work lighting, display lighting and ambient lighting. Jewellery requires precise, colour-neutral light. At the same time, the space should not appear sterile or overly technical. Therefore, a balance had to be found between functionality and emotion. Precise, flexible and premium quality With the MOVE IT 10 system, interior design studio Leimgruber was able to tailor the lighting character to the needs of the jeweller – this included everything from a light colour of 3000 K down to the individual alignment of the modules. The flexibility of the system really came into its own because it allowed us to fine-tune functionality with atmosphere. And the brushed brass version fits perfectly with the design language: delicate, precise and a high-quality material. The beautiful brass surface echoes the craftmanship character of the studio and creates a subtle link between light and space. In addition, the system allows for curved lines and a flexible lighting design.

“With the goldsmith studio Ertl, we created a space that makes the art of goldsmithing palpable – it exudes precision, sensuality and tranquillity.”

In the spotlight

I’m inspired by the interplay of light and material in nature – how surfaces and colours change throughout the day. I like to look closely, detect moods and discover structures. Be it the glittering surface of the water when I’m out sailing or the colours and light moods on a walk through the woods – it’s often the small details, a sunbeam, a shadow or a texture that spawn new ideas.
