HeidelbergCement

A place of interaction

The new HeidelbergCement AG headquarters characterises the old and new location of this DAX-listed company on the Neckar river’s northern bank in Heidelberg with restrained authority. AS+P carried out the planning as general planner. Inside, a central axis, in combination with special zones and the foyer, creates a communicative work environment for up to 1,000 employees.

Office lighting that connects

The task for the lighting designers was to develop a coherent overall solution for the multi-layered working landscape. For the axis, horizontal and vertical circulation routes create a connection that is emphasised by the LITO profile luminaires running over two levels one above the other. The straight lines are broken up at prominent corners to create interaction zones.

Communication hub

The three-storey glass atrium was designed as a hub for human encounters. It is supported by a complex tree structure, which is completed by the customised TUBO luminaire system.

Customised luminaire system

XAL's Customised Solutions team’s achievement was to develop bespoke connecting elements for the TUBO pendant luminaire. The L and/or Y connector enabled the creation of versions connecting two and three TUBOs. In addition, special lengths were implemented both for the entrance hall and for the LITO in the offices.

Reduction to the essential

The joint focus on using architecture and light as a connecting, yet restrained element is also reflected in the casino. The cascading ceiling creates variety while the space at the same time also invites people to slow down.

"Enabling human encounters is probably one of an architect’s most rewarding tasks."

In the spotlight

Today, a modern work environment has to be more than an efficient arrangement of workplaces. It is where human interaction between employees should take place and where identification with the company should be promoted. Our focus in this project was therefore on the direct interaction of people. Architecture and light work together as restrained, connecting elements.
