De House

Living in dialogue with the lake

This residential project embraces its lakeside location as a central design element, clearly highlighting the dialogue between architecture and landscape. An extensive lawn welcomes visitors as they approach the house, leading naturally to the central entrance. Upon entering, a grand staircase, bathed in the soft glow of a skylight, connects all three levels of the residence, immediately drawing the eye upward and inviting exploration.

Architecture framed by natural light

The staircase leads to a mezzanine gallery, designed as a music room, featuring a grand piano, guitars, and an extensive vinyl collection. From this vantage point, one can both overlook the living area below and enjoy privileged views of the lake through the large glass façades of the upper floor. The double-height living room, along with the kitchen and dining areas, is flooded with natural sunlight, reinforcing the connection between interior and exterior.

A vision of purposeful illumination

From the outset, the lighting vision for De House was conceived as a calm and precise architectural intervention. The objective was not to illuminate every surface uniformly, but to light with intention. The concept focused on highlighting only what truly matters: vertical planes that display artwork, the texture of natural materials, and key architectural elements that define the space. Light was used as a subtle tool to reveal depth, materiality, and spatial hierarchy, always integrated seamlessly into the architecture to preserve clarity, visual comfort, and a clean aesthetic.

Precision, restraint, and integrated clarity

The lighting concept is defined by restraint and precision. Rather than relying on uniform ambient light, selective accents and controlled contrasts shape the atmosphere. Vertical illumination highlights artwork, while soft grazing light enhances the texture of stone and wood. The lighting remains discreet and technically refined, supporting the architecture without competing with it. The consistent use of UNICO recessed multi-downlights ensures visual coherence throughout the house, functioning as both a wallwasher and general floodlight. With a warm 3000 K colour temperature, the design creates a serene, comfortable atmosphere that adapts effortlessly to both lively gatherings and quiet evenings.

A harmonious and refined result

The result is a cohesive architectural environment where light and space exist in harmony. The house feels contemporary, calm, and thoughtfully crafted—an expression of the original vision shared by the architects and lighting designers, and a reflection of the family’s desire for warmth, comfort, and understated elegance.

„The lighting does not draw attention to itself; instead, it enhances volumes, defines textures, and supports everyday living in a subtle yet impactful way.“
